DNA TEST - APOE REPORT

Apolipoprotein E (APOE) DNA test is a genetic test that examines variations in the APOE gene. The APOE gene provides instructions for making a protein called apolipoprotein E, which plays a crucial role in cholesterol metabolism and the transport of lipids (fats) in the bloodstream.

There are several common forms or variants of the APOE gene, and the three major ones are denoted as APOE2, APOE3, and APOE4. Each person inherits one copy of the APOE gene from each parent, so they can have two copies of the same variant (e.g., APOE3/APOE3) or one copy of each variant (e.g., APOE3/APOE4).

The APOE gene is associated with the risk of certain health conditions, particularly in relation to cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer's disease. The APOE4 variant, in particular, has been identified as a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. Individuals carrying one or two copies of the APOE4 variant may have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease compared to those with other variants.
